Nigerian operator Green Africa Airways acquired its first owned aircraft shortly after problems with lenders caused the business to be severely disrupted.
Airline chief Babawande Aforabi has notified passengers of any issues that appeared during the Aid Al Fitr Festival.
Afolabi called “sudden, unexpected developments” that prevented carriers from operating operational services over several days.
He said operations will be suspended until after Eid al-Fitr's holidays at the end of March, but assured that carriers are working towards reopening services “in a very short order.”
Green Africa was disclosed on March 31st and has obtained an ATR 72-500.
Turboprop (5N-Gab), which previously used Channel Islands airline Aurigny and South Korea's HI Air, is partially funded through debt facilities provided by Nigerian company Access Bank.
Green Africa says it expects the aircraft to enter service “soon” after regulatory approval.
“This incoming aircraft is crucial as it carefully navigates the next stage of the journey to bring safe, affordable, reliable air travel to a wider group of customers in the region,” Afolabi said.
Green Africa launched its revenue service in 2021 and operates a small fleet of ATR.
“We are impressed by the story of Green Africa and excited about the brand's future trajectory,” says Roosevelt Ogbona, Managing Director of Access Bank.
