Ghana and Morocco have agreed to take steps to waive visa requirements for all travelers between the two countries, a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okdozet Abrakwa announced that contracts will be submitted to both parliaments for ratification in the coming weeks. The two countries also pledged to expand their cooperation in agribusiness, tourism and security following discussions between Abrakwa and Morocco's Ambassador to Ghana, Iman Oadir.
Tackling recent social media claims about violence against Africans in Moroccan, Abrakwa refuted reports that the ambassador had killed 700 Africans, saying a widely circulated video revealed that the June 2022 border incident had 23 deaths. He assured that no Ghanaian casualties were recorded.
As part of strengthening the ties, Morocco also doubled the annual scholarships for Ghanaian students, increasing from 90 to 180.
Separately, Abrakwa met with Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Verdnikov, to discuss bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to neutrality and its role as a voice for world peace.
