The second South African edition of the Future Leaders Challenge (FLC) concluded on May 6, 2025 at Sandon, Johannesburg, with wide-ranging industry support and approval from the Minister. The event, held under the theme of “Seamless Alumni Employment,” brought together tourism authorities, hospitality brands and academic institutions to jointly develop solutions that address the employment potential and sustainability of youth in the tourism and hospitality sector. Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille gave a keynote address, highlighting the government's support for industry skills development and career preparation.
The student team proposed an innovative model to help tourism and hospitality businesses adopt environmentally sustainable practices. The University of Pretoria team was selected as the overall winners, with Central University of Technology and International Hotel School taking second and third place respectively. The trio will represent South Africa at the FLC MEA Finals held in Dubai in January 2026. In parallel with the main event, the School Supervisory Alliance (SDA) conference fostered dialogue between academia, government, and industry, and dialogue with educational channels with employment needs.
