Industry associations respond to international safety concerns
JOHANNESBURG – The South African Federal Hospitality Association (FEDHASA) today reinforced South Africa's accommodation, restaurants and hospitality facilities continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for both national and international visitors.
Following yesterday's prominent meeting with US President Donald Trump and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Fedehasa highlights that millions of visitors experience a safe and secure South African hospitality experience each year.
“We are pleased to announce that we are a great leader in our efforts to help us,” said Rosemary Anderson, national chairman of Fedhasa. “From boutique guesthouses to international hotel brands, our members implement comprehensive security protocols that allow you to relax and enjoy the spirit of peace and the legendary hospitality of South Africa.”
South Africa continues to host millions of national and international visitors each year across hotels, B&BS, restaurants and resorts. All of these operate under strict health and safety guidelines developed over the years in partnership with both government agencies and private industry partners.
As is the case in many countries, crime continues to be a challenge nationwide, but the hospitality industry has many safeguards, including:
The majority of accommodation providers operate with integrated security systems coordinated for guest protection. The busy tourism belt will benefit from visible policing support through local initiatives. Operators have direct access to real-time platforms such as tourism safety support units. Staff at certified facilities receive ongoing training in incident prevention and emergency response protocols.
“We built professionalism across every layer from our concierge desks that know how to quickly escalate concerns through our guest well-trained housekeeping staff,” says Anderson.
Whether it's a Sundowner overlooking Table Mountain or a breakfast served in the mountains of Drakensburg, some people work as part of rebuilding the country.
