It's no wonder that the sunny weather that the UK has adopted over the last few weeks feels inspired by booking your next beach holiday. Nevertheless, with Easter school breaks and bank holidays approaching very quickly, some find it difficult to find the perfect destination, especially if hot tourist spots don't drink tea.
Fortunately, Europe has few hidden gems that are affordable to travel in addition to not being troubled by a herd of visitors. Of these destinations, Caritia, located in Rhodes, Greece, offers a peaceful gateway, and according to With Air, it is one of the least crowded Easter trips for sunbathers looking for an early beach break. Kalithea is a resort area on Rhodes Island and is known for its beaches, particularly Kalithea Beach. It is home to the famous Carritheas Springs, which has clear oceans and shallow areas, as well as its medicinal properties and unique architecture.
To get to Kalithea on Rhodes, you will need to fly to Diagoras International Airport (RHO), the closest airport to Kalithia, about 12.1 km away.
There are many direct flights from the UK to Diagoras. Diagoras is the main airport that serves Rhodes. The average cost of travel is £264, and a variety of airlines offer direct flights including Ryanair, EasyJet and Jet2.
The mileage from the airport to Kalithea is 17km, with an estimated travel time of approximately 19 minutes. If you choose to take a taxi, you'll be spending around £19 to £24.
Additionally, the average cost of a hotel in Caritia ranges from around £39 to £188 per night, depending on the season and the type of hotel, with high season (June to August) being significantly higher than the low season (December to February).
The place offers several interesting attractions, including a viewing area near St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
“This place offers the possibility to take fantastic panoramic photos of Kallithea (the name of the settling translation from Greek means “beautiful scenery”),” blog Aktis reveals.
You can also visit the ruins of the temple of Ammon Zeus, stroll through the village of Kalithea, or try some delicious Greek cuisine.
“Kalithea is a beach that many locals like to gather every day, and is probably my favorite place in Rhodes,” travel blogger Moco-Choco shares.
Kallithea is also worth noting as the filming location for the 1979 film Escape To Athena. In Athena, Roger Moore, David Niven, Terry Savaras and Claudia Cardinal starred.
Kallithea Beach served as the backdrop for some of the great scenes in the film, showing its beautiful coastline and natural environment.
Nearby, Caritias Springs, known for its hot water and impressive architecture, doubled the German prison camp in the film.
Additionally, the film captured the historical charm of the old town of Rhodes, the ancient acropolis of Lindos, and the dramatic cliffs between Lindos and Pefki.
