The European Union has launched a sustainable business in Uganda (SB4U) 2.0. It is an EUR 8 million initiative aimed at strengthening Uganda's tourism and trade sector through sustainable digital development. From 2024 to 2028, the project is consistent with Uganda's National Development Plan IV and is designed to promote inclusive growth by supporting ecotourism, improving infrastructure and promoting green job creation. It also aims to increase competitiveness in both the regional and international tourism markets.
The key focus of SB4U 2.0 is to address the fundamental constraints of Uganda's tourism industry, such as connectivity, environmental sustainability and access to global platforms. The initiative supports tourism small and medium-sized businesses with digital tools, infrastructure investments and training in sustainable practices, targeting both inbound tourists from Europe and cross-border tourism within Africa. By leveraging the country's natural charm and trade ties with the EU, the programme promotes Uganda as a sustainable and globally connected tourist destination.
