Ethiopian Airlines has signed a contract with US-based Archer Aviation to deploy midnight aircraft in Ethiopia under Archer's “Launch Edition” program. Announced at Addis Ababa on March 27, 2025, the partnership marks a key step in the development of Africa's sustainable air mobility networks and introduces Electric Vertical Take-Off (EVTOL) technology to the country.
The midnight aircraft fleet forms the basis for all-electric aviation taxi services, along with launch plans supported by Archer's pilots, technicians and booking technology infrastructure. The initiative, which also explores ecotourism applications, aims to reduce congestion and promote efficient low-emission travel. The project will be developed in collaboration with Ethiopia's Civil Aviation Authority. The project follows a similar agreement between Archer and Abu Dhabi Airlines, which has made Ethiopian Airlines the second confirmed partner under the launch scheme.
