Ethiopian Airlines Group, a leading African aviation group and one of the world's fastest growing airlines, has officially launched a new passenger service that connects Ethiopia's Addis Ababa with Portugal.

The inauguration departed from Addis Abababore International Airport on July 2, 2025, following a lively launch ceremony attended by invited guests, senior officials and airline executives. This new route marks a key milestone in Ethiopian Airlines' expanding global network and strengthens the growing socioeconomic relationship between Ethiopia and Portugal.

On this occasion, Mesphine Taseu, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said: “We are truly pleased to launch a new flight to Portoux, Portugal, and strengthen yet another link between Africa and Europe. The bridge between Africa and Europe.” He said, “As we expand our global network, we continue to be committed to providing Ethiopian hospitality and reliable services to every corner of the world we fly.”

The service runs four times a week on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and stops once in Madrid, Spain. The launch not only opens a new gateway to Portugal, but also strengthens Ethiopia's position as a leading airline connecting Africa to major destinations around the world. It highlights Ethiopian Airlines' commitment to bringing people, cultures and economies together through efficient and world-class air transport.

Porto is Portugal's second largest city and a major cultural and economic centre. Its historic centre is set as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is an attractive destination for both leisure and business travelers.
