Addis Ababa, July 22, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopian Airlines has opened state-of-the-art aviation facilities, including a new hangar, a modern aircraft component shop and a state-of-the-art aircraft parts shop.

Completed within two years, this new infrastructure marks a major milestone in the airline's Vision 2035 strategy, with the aim of expanding its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, supporting the growing fleet and increasing its global competitiveness.

Today, the inauguration ceremony held in Addis Ababa was attended by government officials, diplomats, executives and well-known guests.

The new facility is a testament to Ethiopian airlines' commitment to operational excellence and their continued leadership as Africa's largest and most trusted aviation group.

At the event, Lt. Gen. Irma Meldasa, commander of the Ethiopian Air Force and chairman of the Ethiopian Air Commission, highlighted the importance of the nation and continent of the new infrastructure.

“We are stepping into a future where Ethiopia's MRO capabilities are globally recognized,” he said. “Investing in aviation is crucial not only for economic growth, but also for national security and technological advancements.”

General Yilma highlighted Ethiopian Airlines' broader mission, saying, “This airline is more than business. It is a symbol of innovation, resilience and pan-African progress.

He also praised the collaborative efforts that made the project possible, and praised internal teams such as engineering and planning, as well as international partners who contributed to the achievements.

Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, described the facility as an important step in realizing the airline's long-term vision.

“The entire project was completed in just two years at a cost of $150 million,” he said. “It plays an important role in achieving the goals outlined in the Vision 2035 Plan.”

As airlines continue to expand in Africa and beyond, the newly launched facilities will serve as the foundation for sustainable growth, technological innovation and high-quality aviation services.

This expansion further strengthens Ethiopian Airlines' leading role in African Airlines, creating new opportunities for technical training, job creation and regional industrial development.
