Ethiopian Airlines has launched a new passenger route connecting Addis Ababa to Hyderabad, further expanding India's footprint. The new service, which began on June 16, 2025, operates three times a week, making Hyderabad the sixth Indian city, serving as Africa's largest airline.
The first flight was marked at a celebration ceremony at Addis Ababa Bore International Airport, attended by high-level government officials, ambassadors and aviation executives. By adding Hyderabad to the growth of its Indian network, Ethiopian airlines will not only strengthen air connections, but also trade and tourism links between the two regions.
Expanding connectivity between Africa and India
The new route is part of Ethiopian Airlines' strategic plan to expand access between East Africa and South Asia. Complement the existing services of the carrier to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Chennai. The flight works as follows:
Operation 682ADDIS ABABA (ADD) → Hyderabad (HYD) Monday, Wednesday, Saturday 683 hyderabad (HYD) → Addis Ababa (ADD) Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday Flightroutedays
This route not only improves traveller accessibility between the two countries, but also provides seamless previous connections across Ethiopia's extensive international network across five continents. From Addis Ababa hub, passengers can connect to destinations in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and America.
Why Hyderabad?
Hyderabad, a major technology and culture hub in southern India, has seen an increase in international travel demand, both in business and leisure. Ethiopian airlines will take advantage of the fast-growing market with deep historical and economic ties with East Africa by adding Hyderabad to their route maps.
Mesfin Tasew, group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, stressed the importance of new routes in strengthening cross-border relations. “We believe this flight will play a pivotal role in strengthening trade and tourism links between the two regions,” he said.
Indian Network at a glance
Ethiopian Airlines has steadily grown its presence in India over the years, offering over 50 passengers and cargo flights each week. By including Hyderabad, the airline is currently serving six major Indian cities, creating more options for tourists and businesses as well.

It has won SkyTrax's “Best Airlines in Africa” for the seventh consecutive year, earning Apex's “Best Overall in Africa” award and recent honors for “Leadership that brings together Africa through transportation.”
The airline maintains a modern, fuel-efficient fleet, including the Boeing 787, Airbus A350-900, A350-1000 aircraft and the DeHavilland Q400 turboprop. It also highlights sustainability and customer comfort in line with the long-term strategic roadmap known as “Vision 2035.”

This strategy includes a powerful multi-hub model with partner operations in Togo (Asky), Malawi (Malawi Airlines), Zambia (Zambian Airlines) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Air Congo).
By targeting major growing markets such as India, airlines not only support their expansion goals, but also enhance mobility across developing regions.
