    Ethiopia expands its freight network in Asia

    Ethiopian Airlines, one of Africa's leading airlines and one of the fastest growing global airlines, is pleased to announce the launch of a new two-time cargo flight service between China's Addis Ababa and Ulmki. The first flight was welcomed with a colorful ceremony and traditional water cannon salute upon arrival at Urumqi Diwopu International Airport. New flights will be open every Monday and Thursday.

    This new route will strengthen the footprint of Ethiopian Airlines in western China, strengthen the key freight corridors between Africa and Asia, allowing faster, more efficient freight movements and broader market access for exporters and importers.

    Commenting on the launch of new cargo services Ethiopian airline GCEO Mesfin Tasew, he said, “The launch of cargo services to Urumki is an even more important step towards strengthening its footprint in China and deepening the aerial trade link between Asia and Africa.

    Ethiopian Airlines continues to work to expand its cargo network with purpose and create reliable, fast, seamless logistics that serve as a catalyst for growth across the continent. China continues to be one of our most important markets, and this new route reaffirms our long-term partnership and vision of shared prosperity. ”

    Ethiopian Airlines currently has more than 190 flights to 27 Asian destinations, including 83 flights per week to 11 cities in China. With its modern fleet and highly temperature controlled, high-tech cargo infrastructure, Ethiopia transports approximately 1 million tonnes of cargo per year across a global network of over 140 destinations.

    The new service marks another milestone for Ethiopia's mission to enhance Africa's connectivity and Addis Ababa as an important global freight hub.
