Egypt and Morocco are competing for the title of top travel destinations in Africa, with both countries using sports tourism and cultural heritage to fuel visitor numbers. Morocco led the arrival in 2024, recording 17.4 million visitors (an increase of 20%), while Egypt reached 15.7 million, and in 2025 it reached 18 million. It is highlighted by the recent Sports Expo 2025.
Other major markets across the continent also report strong growth. South Africa saw the arrival of 8.92 million people in 2024, with Zimbabwe leading the largest sauce market. Kenya welcomed 2.39 million visitors and saw a 14.6% increase along with increased air connectivity and strategic marketing. Ghana has increased its highest arrival growth rate by 149% thanks to new visa exemptions and increased flight access. According to the IATA, Africa saw a 14.9% increase in passenger demand in early 2025, pointing to the sustained momentum of the region's tourism sector.
