British airline EasyJet has issued a “check” alert for a holiday maker bound by Turkey, a popular European destination among Britons. The low-cost airline emphasizes to passengers, “Make sure your passport is valid” before flying to this tourist hotspot.
British people may run into problems if they do not meet the entry requirements outlined by the Turkish Foreign Ministry or are advised on local consul platforms such as the FCDO website. A visa is not required for most EU citizens or UK passport holders, typically due to less than 90 days of tourist visits within a 180-day stretch.
“However, there are exceptions such as service passport owners and overseas UK citizens, so check the latest advice before you travel,” EasyJet further advises. “You may need more than a passport or identification card to pass through border security and continue on your journey or holiday.”
From January 1, 2015, your passport must be valid for a minimum of 60 days after the expiration date of your visa, e-Visa, visa waiver, or residence permit. If your visa allows for 90 days of occupancy, your passport must be valid for at least 150 days (90 days + 60 days) from the date of entry.
Travelers heading to Türkiye for leisure or business can secure e-visa via www.evisa.gov.tr. Those planning to work or study will need to procure standard visas through Turkish embassies and consulates, Lancs Live reports.
British passport holders with specific categories, such as British citizens (overseas), foreign citizens abroad, British guardians, British subjects, or British territorial citizens, are advised to verify visa requirements with Turkish consulate generals before travelling. Official guidance and the latest travel directives can be found at gov.uk.
Advisories are issued in anticipation of the Easter Holiday period. Many families are expected to embark on vacation for future bank holidays.
Additional security measures will also be included in Türkiye, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco and Egypt. As EasyJet states on its website, “Additional security measures are currently being applied to flights from Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco and Egypt to the UK.”
These additional checks will be made at the gate just before boarding begins. The EasyJet website has a section that addresses common queries that have increased security procedures.
When asked if passengers are planning to arrive at the airport or gate earlier than usual, the airline responded, “You don't need to come to the airport earlier than you see in the confirmation email, but make sure you arrive at the gate as soon as the gate is announced.”
EasyJet has confirmed that passengers can bring personal electronic devices, such as laptops, tablets and mobiles, onboard. However, the airline advises: “Make sure your device is charged as you may be asked to turn it on during a security check. If you are unable to turn it on, you will need to travel without it or place the item in the hold for safe transportation.”
The airline also said it would not provide a charger at the gate. EasyJet emphasizes the importance of notifying passengers about these requirements.
These rules apply specifically to flights departing from Türkiye, Egypt and Tunisia, as well as to the UK from Morocco and Jordan. For those flying from Egypt, Jordan or Morocco, EasyJet said:
