A strong cut-off (COL) weather system is projected this week, leading to snowfall, heavy rain and heavy storms across much of South Africa. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) predicted snow on Wednesday, April 23rd in highland areas of Lesotho, the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, with cold conditions expected to continue over the weekend.
The COL system is expected to produce a wide range of showers with rainfall exceeding 50 mm in the eastern region by Thursday, presumably with heavy thunderstorms in the Free State and the northwest. Travelers and tourism operators in affected areas should be prepared for possible disruptions, such as road closures, flooding and unsafe hiking conditions. Thor continues to publish updates as conditions evolve.
