A diner at one of Rick Stein's restaurants was disappointed and called Fish and Chips “the worst I've ever tried.” Restaurant Reviews Gary Hanna, who runs the YouTube channel Gary Eats, said she was very disappointed with the food he sent back to the meal.
The chef and television presenter owns a Fish and Chip Shop in Padstow, Cornwall. Haddock and Chips takeaway is £15.95, with sit-in customers rising to £19.95. Gary said of his diet: “I had his fish and chips and I have to say they're sorry. In fact, I actually called it and said it was a tourist trap.” He gave the restaurant a second chance and went back again to see if his initial disappointment was a fluke. He said it wasn't and insisted that the food was not worth the 20 minute wait.
The reviewer said that the chips are “a bit dry,” the “mass-produced mash” of scampi, and the mushy peas being “trash” “not a good fish at all.”
Others on TripAdvisor remained disappointed with Rick Stein's fish and chips. “To be honest, the worst fish and chips I've tried so far were the chips and fish dough absolutely saturated with oil, and the curry sauce was like a dishware with curry hints.”
Another addition: “Save money and support local fish and chip outlets in Padstow. The quality and portion size of Rick Stein's orders were horrifying.”
The third person said: “In the beginning, I thought there was a mistake, and there was a portion of the size of the child,” another said: “Pure grease, even nice fish and chips are too expensive, mushy peas if you could call them that watery paste.”
Someone else wrote:
“The portion size was minimal and not proportional to the price of the meal. We also thought that the price would include basics like mayonnaise and tartar sauce.”
Rick Stein owns six restaurants and cafes in Padstow, a gift shop, a pub and a culinary school. His presence in the town became known as Padstein.
