The US Carrier Delta Air Line inspected more than 100 aircraft after disrupting operations at the Atlanta Hub after a severe storm that included hail.
The evening storm on June 27th resulted in hundreds of flight cancellations.
Weather data from the airport show thunderstorms, big hail, winds up to 28kt, and heavy rain.
Delta said hail requires continuous inspections on more than 100 aircraft, and maintenance personnel have completed it by the morning of June 28th.
Chief Customer Experience Officer Elix Nell added that Windshires also exist, including reports of microbursts.
He says the storm forced evacuation and temporary power losses at Atlanta's control tower.
While Delta operations are recovering, Snell says it is likely that weekend disruptions will continue.
“Our operations team is actively regaining crews on schedule,” he said, adding that pilots, cabin crews and other staff are “over the top” to restore normal service.
Atlanta is the busiest airport in the world. It handled 108 million passengers last year, of which 80 million (nearly three-quarters of the total) were from Delta.
Delta operates approximately 900 hubs every day.
