…and introduces a new online shop and fudge package.
The company behind the favorite range of Darling Sweet, South Africa's favorites, Toffee, Soft Caramel and Fudge, has now become July 11th this year. To celebrate that anniversary, owners Henty van der Merwe and Fritt's van Rieveld not only launched a new online store, but also revealed an updated package for a more delicious, more traditional fudge.
Van Lineveld said: “When we launched our first sweets in 2014, we didn't expect to produce 10 different toffees in 11 years, eight different flavors of soft caramel, two different toffee spreads, and all the iconic sweets.
“It wasn't all a smooth ride, especially during the community lockdown, but our resilience and commitment to delivering quality products helped us stand the test of time.”
Ironically, the traditional gift for the 11th anniversary is steel, representing a “strong and durable bond.”
Van Lineveld also points to the Sweetland Kitchen brand of Darling Sweet, which it acquired in 2020, and now includes five different rusk flavors, three types of cookies, granola and Fleur de Ser (salt).
“We had planned to launch Swartland Kitchen in April 2020, but then it was locked down with all restrictions. Suddenly, all shows and markets were cancelled, and the shops were cancelled.
Over the years, the dynamic duo of Darling has used modern African designs to refresh their range packaging for confectionery. The latest one is a fudge box with a fresher, modern look.
“As I am a part of Africa and consider myself an African person, I am extremely proud to showcase the African sense that I use in my designs as curated by Henty,” says Van Lineveld.
Eagle Eyed consumers may have noticed that the windows on the front panel of toffee, caramel and fudge boxes differ in shape. For Toffee packaging, it is in the shape of a circle, hexagonal for soft caramel and diamond for fudge!
This is to distinguish between the three lines, according to Van der Merwe.
Van Lineveld and Van der Melwe said: “Darling Sweetmark, which creates sweet moments over the course of a decade and creates lasting connections with our community. This milestone is a testament to the passion, creativity and dedication that has shaped all-hand treats.
