Cruises are a great way to travel if you are eager to cram several destinations at once. It comes with an additional bonus of being able to travel in style.
Cruise lines are mostly packed with extra amenities to keep you entertained when you set sail from the port to the port. The only minor drawback of the cruise holiday is the size of the cabin during your stay. This isn't a big deal with grand plans for things, but most of the time you're busy and likely spend very little time in the cabin, so you can narrow it down a bit if you're traveling with family and friends.
Standard cabins usually have two single beds or one double, with little extra space for travel beds if you have children.
It is possible to upgrade your accommodation to suite to have a little extra space, but this will cost a lot of extra money.
However, there is a clever way to this problem, in the form of connecting the cabins. These rooms are available on most major cruise lines and you will come across a variety of grades, so you don't need to fork a luxurious suite just to get it.
Connecting cabins are usually symbolized on cruise ship deck plans, with a set of interior doors that can be opened, allowing the spaces of two rooms to be shared.
This option is generally cheaper than paying for a larger suite, with most shops having the option to book a connecting balcony room or an internal connecting room, the latter being cheaper of the two.
The cruise critic explained: “For less money than a relatively sized suite, two ocean views or balcony connecting cabins offer separate living space, twice the storage space, twice the bathroom, and space to spread out and relax day and night.
“Having that storage space and double bathroom is a big win for families with small children. Rather than cramming four people into one room, instead of stuffing two rooms to move around, two connecting cabins move around twice as much floor space, double the double bathroom and closet, everyone's things hang and clean up, preventing Queue for morning and evening rushes.
“Like there are big hotel rooms, the two connecting cabins offer convenience and space for just a small portion of the cost of a full-fledged suite.”
The important thing to keep in mind before booking a connecting cabin is that you may need to pay two deposits (one for each room) and you need to be aware that families cannot register for their own room, so you must book each room with an adult name.
