If you want to make the most of your cruise, there's one thing you want to avoid at every cost. This common illness can bump into the most inconvenient times and turn a gorgeous, relaxing holiday into a nauseating nightmare. Luckily, if you know you are prone to illness attacks, there are cheap and easy ways to conquer it.
Speaking to the Boat Charter Yacht Charter Company, Dr. Gary Bartlett shares his top tips for keeping marine at bay. He said motion sickness is caused by inner ear disorders. “It usually occurs when you travel by car, boat, plane or train. The body's sensory organs send mixed messages to the brain, causing dizziness, lightheads, or nausea.
“It maintains balance with the help of signals sent from many parts of the body, such as the eyes and inner ear. It lets the feet and other sensory receptors in the feet tell which part of the body the nervous system is touching.
“Conflicting signals can cause motion sickness. Motion sickness usually causes stomach upset. Other symptoms include cold sweat and dizziness.
As for how to treat it, Dr. Bartlett shared some of the natural ways you can fall into combat illness.
The first is where you sit. He said: “Sitting forward towards the boat, facing backwards, trying to avoid focusing on the horizon.”
If you are on a longer cruise, secure the right cabin to prevent you from feeling sick. Dr. Bartlett said: “Some cabins are at water level and close to the front or center of the container, if possible, open vents for a source of fresh air and avoid reading on board.
Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and avoid getting sick.
The third way you can fight seasickness is the natural treatment of peppermint and inger. Soak the peppermint tea bag and raw ginger chunks in hot water, squeeze the nausea and sip slowly.
Both of these items are incredibly cheap and easy to bring with you.
Dr. Bartlett said: “Eat delicious meals before your trip and stay away from fat and acidic foods. Peppermint has not been proven by the ginger, not just by science, but these options are unavailable.”
