Two people died after a small plane crashed shortly after taking off from Georgia's municipal airport 30 miles east of Atlanta.

The Covington Police Department said the single-engine aircraft took off from Covington Municipal Airport around 11:21pm on Saturday.
The airport lost communication with the aircraft about 20 minutes later. The officers then found a crashed plane in the forest near the runway.

Covington Municipal Airport is located in downtown Atlanta and east of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and is Delta's main hub that processed more than 750,000 aircraft in 2024.
