Pick-ups are a problem across the UK, but one place is the worst when your belongings get stolen. Less than 14,000 pickpocket attacks were recorded in 2024 at the train station under its jurisdiction, according to the British Transport Police (BTP). Bundling storage network Bounce.com submitted a FOI request to the UK transport police to determine the number of attacks across the UK, confirming that the city is the worst city and is London.
Kings Cross St. Pancras was appointed last year as the location where you are most likely to be pickpocketed with a theft that had a whopping 506 theft reported. A 25th pickpocket incident occurred at Kings Cross St. Pancras Metro Station.
The Oxford Circus is nearly two seconds in 467 reporting cases, just 8% less than the Kings Cross. Sitting in the heart of London's busiest shopping district, the busiest shopping district is always packed with commuters, shoppers and tourists heading to Oxford Street, and you'll easily pick up for burglars.
Finsbury Park Railway Station ranked third in the incident where 433 reported pickpockets were reported, proving that theft is a concern outside central London. The station is a major exchange of national railways, underground and several bus routes, meaning thousands of people pass by every day. With so many commuters switching services, it's easy for criminals to blend in with the crowd.
Cody Candee, CEO and founder of Bounce.com, says there are ways to avoid becoming a target for opportunistic burglars.
He states: “Railway stations are part of the busiest public spaces and are the main target of opportunistic burglars. Extra precautions can make all the difference in keeping your belongings safe.
“If you are carrying your bags, always keep them in sight. Wear a backpack in front of busy areas, and keep your suitcase close by, especially near the escalator and ticket barriers. When waiting for a train, do not place the bag on the floor or leave it in your seat. If you place your bag down, loop the bag strap around your arms and legs to prevent a quick grab.
“Crimes and pickpockets often work with teams who use distracting tactics to steal valuables. Be wary of the person causing the scene and stay alert in crowded spaces. Whether you're keeping your bags safe or close by, a little care can lead to a stress-free journey.”
