The US aviation industry was added to the chatter on February 20th, recognizing that Sun Country Airlines saw a positive mix with its competitors around a potential partnership.
Discounter Chief Financial Officer Dave Davis said at the Barclays Industrial Select Conference on February 20th that he would consider combining Sun Country with another airline describing it as a “Pro-M&A.”
“I think there's a meaningful combination with Sun Country, and we keep looking at things,” he says. “That's certainly not our master plan, but I believe the industry needs to integrate on the low cost side. It feels like some combinations are coming.”
However, on behalf of Amazon, Minneapolis-based Suncountry, the issue becomes even more complicated.
“The uniqueness of our model makes it a little more difficult for us,” he says. “As you know, there are 20 cargo ships that are different from passenger-centric carriers.

The industry's momentum appears to be built towards a combination of one or more airlines, with frontier airlines doing aggressive plays to win spirit airlines born from financial restructuring, JetBlue Airways has recently confirmed it has been exploring partnerships with potential partners.
