The “snowy” tourist spot was criticized after trying to recreate winter weather with fluff.
Chengdu Snow Village in Sichuan Province, China, is sold as a winter wonderland, attracting tourists during the New Year by posting photos of the snowy areas online.
However, when visitors arrived they met in a brown grassy area, log cabins and railings covered in stapled sheets of white cotton and soap bubbles.
Tourists were furious and disappointed by one social media user who said that a social media user. I think my intelligence was insulted! ”
Another said: “Snowless villages. In today's age of well-developed internet, scenic spots must advertise honestly and avoid deceptions and false advertising. Otherwise they just shoot in the leg.”
Snow Village apologized on social media, denounced the unusually warm climate in the blundering region.
“To create a 'snowy' atmosphere, the tourist village bought cotton for the snow, but it did not achieve the expected effect and gave a very bad impression to the tourists who visited. I've left it,” he said in a statement.
Posts were added when a refund was offered to dissatisfied visitors.
“Following the precedents of the past few years, we usually have snow in the winter, so we set up this place for photography in advance to wait for the snow to arrive,” the staff said. He spoke to the state-run Global Times. “However, this year, the weather didn't cooperate and there was no snow.”
Workers at Atraction's Management Office admitted that fake snow made of cotton was cleaned after the rage of the masses.
“It's been snowing every winter in the past, so we upgraded the area to a tour site and promoted widely before the opening,” an unnamed worker told the Shanghai Morning Post. “We were waiting for the snow to arrive. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side.”
The village was then closed and authorities are investigating tourist attractions for suspected false advertising, Chengdu's Culture and Tourism Bureau said in a statement.
The national weather service warns that climate change is causing hotter, longer heat waves, and more frequent and unpredictable heavy rain. China is the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases.
When Beijing hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics, climate change and extreme drought forced the game to rely almost entirely on artificial snow.
The rage comes after a social media video was distributed last year that showed that the famous waterfall in the national park could have been artificially enhanced by water pipes.
Park officials later said waterfalls in northern central Henan Province had undergone “small improvements during the dry season” to accommodate pregnant tourists.
