Children of all ages welcome at the safari at Marataba Game Lodge

Johannesburg, South Africa, July 29, 2025: Multi-generational travel is booming, and MMGY Travel Intelligence has discovered that 86% of American travelers with children will be interested in international travel over the next two years. However, safari has long been a challenge. How do you create an experience that will excite your grandparents, relax your parents, and please your children at once?

A luxury lodge located within Marakere National Park and part of a more family collection, Marataba Safari Lodge is changing the way families experience safari. As of June 1, 2025, Marataba is officially welcoming children of all ages on Game Drive, making it easier than ever for families to explore the wild together.

“Safari has always been about connections, whether it's on the land, for wildlife or even each other,” says Robert More, custodian and CEO of More Family Collection. “We are passionate about sharing our love for the wilderness with all our guests, young and old. Marataba's new products are designed to evoke lifelong respect for nature with tomorrow's conservation champion.”

Traditional safaris make it difficult for families to travel together, accepting only children over the age of 6, or offering limited activities that could be too forward to young children. Logistical challenges with accommodation and established family schedules can also complicate things even more.

Marataba's new products are designed to remove these barriers by including:

Welcome Policy for All Ages: From toddlers to teens, children can now participate in a full safari experience with their parents and grandparents. Expanded Mack & Madi Program: Currently, under the care of trained professionals, includes a wider age range and new nature-inspired activities. New Eco Garden Experience: This hands-on space allows young explorers to dig, discover and learn through play. Integrated with the Mack & Madi program, transforming conservation education into a pure adventure.

In addition to these enhancements, Marataba holds long-standing guest favorites such as:

Thabametsi Treehouse offers a unique experience and creates lifelong memories sleeping under the stars for children over the age of six. Miss Mara Water Safari ensures that all members of the family can enjoy the wilderness of Africa, regardless of their mobility level.

Unlike many safari experiences that separate families or provide limited engagement to children, Marataba has created a model that takes into consideration and corresponds to every member of the family, from Dawn Drive to Sundowner.

“This is not just about removing the barriers to age, it's about creating authentic connections across generations,” he says more. “What remains long after the game drives and Starlight dinner drives is something much quieter. The feeling of Wild, you have someone you love, something much bigger than you.”

For travelers looking for something more intimate, Mt. Marataba Lodge offers private suites and even one supplement for individual guests.

Whether you're planning your first safari for a curious toddler or celebrating a milestone birthday with the whole family, our Family Collection Concierge team can help you design a journey that's useful to everyone.
