Barcelona is undoubtedly one of Spain's top city break destinations, with its amazing architecture, a fantastic beachfront and many tourist attractions. However, if you are looking for a similar experience with fewer crowds, travel experts recommend considering Valencia, a city in eastern Spain.

Valencia, the third largest city in Spain, is located on the banks of the Tulia River. According to 1st Move International, which analyzed Tiktok's “Destination Dupes,” Valencia can serve as a great alternative to Barcelona and save visitors money. Experts say, “The Spanish gems offer views of Tiktok over 1.3m, showing off stunning architecture, an appetizing food market and a vibrant nightlife.

“Valencia will become a major tourist hub, welcoming over 10 million visitors in 2023 alone, offering crowded and inexpensive holiday destinations in the capital, Barcelona.”

Known as the birthplace of rice dishes like paella, Valencia boasts a thriving food scene today. Mercado Central, a vast modernista-style market in the city dating back to 1928, is located in the heart of Valencia, and reported by Mirror.

Visitors can predict colour riots at impressive seafood counters, meat stalls filled with fresh cuts, and fruit and vegetable stands.

El Publet Restaurant has recently been recognized as one of the city's top dining spots, securing its location in 2023 on the list of 50 best restaurants in the world.

Since its launch in 2012, the restaurant has a menu featuring locally produced produce from nearby Albufera Natural Park.

Aside from tasting the city's gastronomy and drink offerings, tourists are spoiled for their choice on many “must-see” sites.

The prestigious travel manual, Lonely Planet sheds light on the top attractions to visit Iglesia de Nicolas, Cathedral de Valencia and Ciudad de Las Art y Las Ciencia.

The vast expansive interior of the Ciudad de las Artes y Las Ciencias covers more than 350,000 square meters along the old Tulia River, representing the breathtaking collection of structures that are largely envisaged by the famous local architect Santiago Calatrava.

These monumental buildings include an impressive opera house, a science museum, ocean and 3D films.

Valencia offers a wealth of accommodation to suit every flavour, from luxurious hotels to homely self-service flats. The latest data from Booking.com suggests that visitors can find stays at the hostel starting at just £26.
