Hong Kong's Cathay Cargo and Cathay Cargo Terminals hold a complete suite of IATA CEIV certified, including Pharma, Fresh, Live Animals and Lithium Batteries, highlighting Cathay's ability to safely and efficiently handle special cargo. Terminal is also the organization that successfully achieved IATA SEMS certification in its first ground handling in Asia and the highest level for first-time certification.
To consistently adhere to safety regulations and customer requirements, Cathay Cargo implements a rigorous training programme for staff and ground handlers. Its Cargo Agent Operations Program (CAOP) promotes compliance with e-commerce cargo declaration and physical handling, particularly those that include lithium batteries.
Cathay Cargo Terminal has made a pioneering leap into workplace safety by becoming Hong Kong's first air cargo terminal to integrate AI with CCTV infrastructure. Through our partnership with AI Safety Technology Leader Intenseye, Cathay Cargo Terminal monitors and detects real-time risks, including:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Unstable Vehicle Proximity Aisle Violation Unmanned Shipping (via Custom Build Aerat) for unmanned shipping at truck docks
This AIREDY system is designed with privacy-first principles through Intenseye's ethical UI and plays a key role in supporting the Cathay Cargo Terminal's vision of zero-harm operation.
The terminal's robust safety culture was further verified with five wins at Hong Kong's Occupational Safety and Health Awards in 2024.
Earlier this year, Cathay Freight became the first air cargo operator to implement one record data standard for daily operations, prior to its January 2026 target, highlighting its commitment to major digital conversion of air cargo.
