Capenature released its 2025 Conservation Report, depicting notable conservation progress, highlighting urgent priorities in the Western Cape. The report, launched on June 26th in the Annual Conservation Review, presents data-driven insights into ecosystem health informed by extensive fieldwork, ecological surveillance and spatial analysis across key habitats. Since the last update, an additional 13,117 hectares have been added to the state's protected area network, with conservation properties increasing to 1,095,428 hectares as of March 2025.
The report highlights the continued importance of partnerships with private landowners, communities and research institutions in ensuring and managing biodiversity. Strategic stewardship agreements and joint oversights strengthen conservation outcomes other than formal reserves. It also reflects Capernature's commitment to biodiversity conservation in the face of climate pressures, land use expansion, and habitat loss, consistent with national and international reporting frameworks. Authorities emphasized that the resilience of these ecosystems is important for both environmental sustainability and community well-being.
