{KXLG – SD, Bryant} An emergency crew responded in the 200 block of Lebanon Avenue in Bryant, South Dakota, around 1:55pm on Thursday, April 24th, around 1:00pm, according to the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the fire, but was able to safely evacuate himself and the animals before the Bryant Fire Station arrived. Traffic was closed on South Dakota Highway 28 for almost an hour as firefighters worked to put out the flames.
Several agencies responded to the scene, including Bryant Fire Station, Lake Norden Fire Station, Haity Fire Station, Lake Norden Ambulance, Hamlin County Sheriff's Office, Hamlin County Emergency Management and the City of Bryant. The paramedics remained on the scene for about two hours.
The Salvation Army supports displaced people with temporary accommodation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
