British tourists are facing daily charges to access the Italian city of Venice on a specific date this year. A popular holiday hotspot spread across more than 100 small islands in Adriatic lagoons, has introduced access fees charged to visitors as an alternative to tourism tax.
Fees must be paid by anyone who enters the municipality of Venice or the ancient city of other islands of Venetian Aragoon, but only on certain days of 2025.
Città di Venezia explains: “When you arrive in Venice in an age where bookings are scheduled, you will find a security officer at your access point to the city. Don't worry, there is also space to see everything being perfectly marked and ask for information.”
The rates are from 4pm to 4pm by 8:30am in April, May, June and July this year for visitors to Venice's Lagoon City on more than 50 dates (mostly weekends). On days when access contribution fees are required, all of the following are included:

Some people are exempt from access fees for residents, those born in Venice, those under the age of 14, students from city schools, and people with disabilities.
Città di Venezia adds: “For all those who are not subjects who are not part of the exclusion and exemption conditions, in 2025, a pre-booking incentive was introduced that offers a payment of 5.00 euros only to those who pay the access fee within four days prior to access before access date.
