British tourists are being urged to do some quick checks during their trip this summer. Or they risk coming home with them. You may know, it is easy for them to travel back from the hotel with you and they can make themselves comfortable in your bed.
As many people are erupting to grab the sun over the next few weeks, advice is very important and can either end your holiday at a high price or make a difference across disasters. If you are listening to expert advice, you should do a quick check when you arrive to avoid nasty creatures coming home with you.
Laurence Barnard, country business manager and Pest Control specialist at BASF Pest Control Solutions, shared his advice on supporting holiday makers. With hundreds of followers on Facebook, the company knows what they're talking about.
When asked what attracts bed bugs, Lawrence said:
“People often unconsciously attract bed bugs by bringing in second hand furniture, mattresses or clothes that have already been invaded. They also sometimes ride their luggage, backpacks and even clothes after staying in an infected place, such as a hotel.”
He added: “To reduce risk, always carefully inspect second hand items before bringing them indoors, and check your beds, headboards and upholstered furniture while traveling for signs of bed bugs, such as small rusty spots.”
Experts also shared some advice on what bedbugs can do to prevent bedbugs too. After all, there are a few things people can set up to stop them.
Lawrence said: “A proactive approach is needed to prevent bedbugs, vacuuming your floors, mattress and upholstery items regularly to maintain a clean living environment and remove stray bugs and eggs.
“It was messy from under the bed where bed bugs were hiding, including clothes, piles of boxes and piles of boxes.
“If you suspect an invasion, don't delay seeking professional pest control services.” Following these simple rules can make a difference in preventing pests from taking over.
What is a bed bug?
The NHS stated: “Bed bugs are small insects that often live in furniture and bedding. The bites are itchy, but they usually don't cause other health problems.”
It can be hidden in many places, including bed frames, mattresses, clothing, furniture, behind photos, loose wallpapers, and more. There are some signs you can see to find them.
First of all, while you sleep, they bite the skin, so you can notice biting marks in areas such as your face, neck, and arms. In addition to this, the bedding may also have blood.
This is because you can sometimes bleed when you bite, or simply crush small creatures while you're sleeping. Bedding and furniture may have small brown spots that can turn into bed bug poop.
