Holiday-going British people face a charge of £94.50 starting Thursday as new passport fees have been introduced.
The UK government has been hiking the cost of applying for a new passport since April 10, 2025, with standard online fees set to increase by £6. Therefore, UK holiday makers who need to renew their passports will have to pay £94.50 from Thursday under the new rate from the current £88.50. Standard online application fees for children have also risen, rising from £57.50 to £61.50. This is an increase of 4 pounds.
Applying for a new passport by mail increases adult fees, rising from the current £100 to £7, while children's costs increase from £69 to £74.
The one-day premium service available if you need to renew your passport quickly will rise from £207.50 to £222 for adults and fees from £176.50 to £189 for children.
Additionally, the UK passport international application will also rise from Thursday, with the standard online application for adults rising from 101 to 108 pounds, while children will rise from 65.50 to 70 pounds.
Adults applying from abroad via paper applications will pay between £112.50 and £120.50, while children will cost between £77 and £82.50.
The new fee will be subject to parliamentary approval and will be used to contribute to passport applications, overseas consular assistance including lost or stolen passports, and the cost of handling of British citizens at the UK border.
Holiday makers will be encouraged to apply properly before travelling and ensure that they receive their passport on time. In 2024, no further information was required, 99.7% of standard applications from the UK were processed within three weeks.
British people traveling to the European Union countries, or the countries of Norway, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein, must have a passport with a “issue date” less than 10 years from the date of arrival and have a “expiration date” at least three months after the scheduled date of departure.
This means that if you renew your passport by October 1, 2018, you have a date of the issue over 10 years ago.
If your passport does not meet both of these requirements, your entry will be denied because there is no valid travel documents to enter these countries.
