According to British foreigners who lived in Spain for 38 years, there is one common mistake many people make before moving to the country. Based in Lacala de Millas in Costa del Sol, Daniel Eford shares videos on social media that admire the region’s refreshing weather, picturesque scenery and delicious food.
However, in a recent video posted on his Tiktok page @danielfford23, he provided eye-opening information to anyone looking to follow in his footsteps. He described life in Spain as “glorious” and “not easy,” but reassures that this applies to starting a new life in any country. But many people quickly revealed where they were wrong.
He said: “I think one of the biggest stunning blocks people have is that when they come to Spain, they come as a villa. They see life from the holiday scenery and they don’t really take into account what happens behind the scenes.”
Daniel further explained that when tourists visit the country for a short time, they believe their holiday experience is the same as living there, and they want to stay for them for a long time, but believe that having that mindset is “just a mistake.”
Offering “words of advice” to hopeful foreigners, the transition to Spain is still just an idea.
He continued: “If you’re thinking about moving to Spain, check out what happens by asking the locals what will happen in Spain. You’re not doing a bit of homework, talking to the locals, or talking about the British at your favorite bar you’re going to.
By doing that, he said he could find the information he needed, such as what Wannabe Expat should do, where to go. He also suggests going online with the Spanish experience and researching foreigners.
Daniel warned that people “drown common sense in the way tourists view them.”
He concluded that people should reemphasize “(their) homework” and talk to multiple local people. Before you can assure that living abroad is good, you need “appropriate materials.”
