The UK's Foreign, Federal and Development Authority (FCDO) has issued the latest guidance for British people traveling to Greece after a recent incident. An alert was released on Saturday, May 3rd, after a fatal explosion in Thessaloniki.
The surprising event involves a 38-year-old woman who tried to place it outside the bank around 5am, but lost her life to the bomb.
The new Gov.uk Alert states, “There was an explosion at Thessaloniki in the early morning of May 3rd. If you are in the area, beware of the advice of local authorities.”
Furthermore, the FCDO maintains existing advice on the Greek terrorist threat, saying, “Terrorists are likely to try to carry out an attack in Greece. The attack could be indiscriminate, including places visited by foreigners.”
Additionally, past incidents have seen the use of explosives and firearms targeting various locations, including Greek facilities, shopping centres, banks, media, diplomatic missions and law enforcement agencies.
Also, in light of recent developments in Israel and occupied Palestinian territory, there has been an increase in vigilance over certain well-known sites, which has led to the increased likelihood of public demonstrations, particularly in downtown Athens.
