Botswana has been identified as the host country for Aviadev Africa 2026, a major aviation forum aimed at strengthening air connectivity both inside and outside the continent. The announcement came during the 2025 edition of the closing session held in Zanzibar. Supported by multi-agency bids, including Botswana's Civil Aviation Authority, National Tourism and Investment Agency and private sector stakeholders, the country has secured opportunities following the formal bidding and site inspection process.
Aviadev Africa, which brings together airlines, airports, tourism authorities and investors, serves as a strategic platform for route development and regional integration. The Botswana choice is consistent with the broader economic diversification agenda. According to Dr. Bao Mosinyi, CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority, improved connectivity could lead to growth in GDP and tourism arrivals. As Botswana is located to attract more regional transportation and international airlines ahead of the 2026 event, preparations are already underway, including improvements to infrastructure and discussions regarding visa facilitation.
