In collaboration with Aerospace Giant Boeing (NYSE: BA), Future African Space Explorer's Stem Academy (Fasesa) has launched the second edition of its “Pathways to Space” programme, marking the debut of its initiative in Kenya and its return to Ethiopia and Nigeria.
Targeting up to 300 students ages 13-18 across state schools, the program is designed to inspire interest in space science and to acquire basic skills for astronaut, engineering and aerospace careers. The program, provided in collaboration with local educational and government agencies, runs for five months and includes weekly classes, spacecraft simulations, robotic arm control exercises, and a Capstone project in which students create documentaries on space exploration.
“The 'Route to Space' program will encourage the next generation to reach the stars, along with Facesa's educational expertise,” said Kurjit Gata Aura, president of Boeing Middle East, Churkiye, Africa and Central Asia.
Sean Jacobs, executive director of Fasesa, highlighted his shared commitment to building a future STEM workforce in Africa. “This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering young talent and promoting Africa's presence in the global space and STEM industry,” he said.
The programme is based on the success of the 2024 edition, involving over 300 students from Ethiopia, Nigeria and Tanzania, culminating in the launch of high-altitude balloons assembled by students.
