A charming village surrounded by vast Cheshire countryside, Tatten Hall is worth visiting for its drastic views alone, but this idyllic place features another feather. The town recently sweeps praises at a famous local awards gala and celebrates two of its most famous businesses.
The popular family spot The Ice Cream Farm won the “Visitor Attraction of the Year” title at the 2025 Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards. It is “the only ice cream-themed family charm in the UK” and has been praised for boasting the home claims of “the world's largest ice cream parlour.” Meanwhile, the Pheasant Inn Pub concluded the “Taste of Cheshire Award,” further cementing Tattenhall's reputation as a culinary and leisure hotspot.
Ice Cream Farm delights kids and adults alike with an array of over 50 flavors each day.
In addition to its unique products, the farm introduced what is said to be the UK's first ice cream drive-in two years ago. It's just one of that multi-million pound expansion. Today, it offers a comprehensive indoor and outdoor play park that promises the fun of the day in nature, Manchester Evening News reports.
And the praise is thick and fast, as the farm unveiled Honeycomb Canyon last summer, claiming the title “Europe's largest indoor sand and water play area.”
Located at the foot of the Cheshire Plain, this venue is home to plenty of outdoor attractions for children. These include climbing equipment, “ice cream trees” that produce “snow” regardless of the weather, and ice cream themed mini golf courses.
Beyond Sandstone Ridge, there is the Pheasant Inn Pub in Higher Burwardesley. The property boasts breathtaking views of the Cheshire Plains. With its far-flung hillside location, it is a popular stop-off point for cyclists and walkers. The accommodation also offers hotel rooms for those who wish to extend their visit.
The judges at the Taste of Cheshire Award praised the pub's various menus and said the food was “delicious and perfectly cooked.” They also noted the cozy, friendly atmosphere of the accommodation and its pure white cleanliness.
The Taste of Cheshire Awards is the latest in a series of praise from the Pheasant Inn, currently listed by the AA Restaurant Guide as “a popular pub with spectacular local views.”
Tattenhall Marina offers interesting alternatives for those looking for a more unique experience than a traditional pub stay. In 2022, Marina launched a floating glamping pod, adding a new dimension to the narrow boat offering already popular on the Shropshire Union Canal.
These floating hats feature modern decor and floor-to-ceiling windows, offering amazing views of the surrounding water.
Tatten Hall is just 8 miles from Chester city centre, about 20 minutes' drive, about 47 miles from Manchester and about 1 hour and 10 minutes' drive. The local station was closed in the 1950s, so the nearest mainline station is Chester. Buses travelling from Chester to Tatten Hall along the Main A41, and during the summer, shuttle buses can be booked directly to the Ice Cream Farm.
