Spain is Britt's favorite holiday destination, with 17 million British holiday makers traveling to the country in 2023. The capitals, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Valencia, are one of the most in demand cities for holiday makers.
However, as Spanish cities lament tourist crowds during their peak summer months, many vacationers are looking at potential alternative destinations this summer. One city that caught my eye thanks to its affordability and beauty is Cordoba, located in the southern part of Andalusia. According to Nomadseason.com, visitors in April can expect an average weather of 31C with an average high temperature.
Not only that, a study by Magnet Kitchen using Numbeo's data to analyze 190 cities around the world found that Cordoba is the most affordable city for wine bottles.
Topping your list along with Rome, the Italian capital. Cordoba wine bottles are available for just £2.80.
The city's charm and history ensures the status of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its rich history dates back to the arrival of the Romans in 152 BC.
Cordoba was also known as the capital of the Moorish Empire during the “Golden Age of Islamic Era.” It was praised as a center of art, science and philosophy.
Skyscanner has named the city among the best destinations to visit in 2025.
Among the must-see sites is Mezkita Cathedral, one of the “world's biggest works of Islamic architecture.”
Meanwhile, the city's Roman history is photographed through the Roman Bridge in Cordoba, built in the first century BC.
It's not complicated to get to Cordoba. You can drive by Cordoba (90 minutes) or train (45 minutes) along the road before flying from the UK to Seville's international airport.
A TripAdvisor user said, “Cordoba is a very nice city and is worth giving extra time.”
Another addition: “I love Cordoba and spent a week or so – again in late September. The above suggestions above can be combined with Cadiz as they can get very hot in the summer.
“Caddith has nice beaches, lots of great bars and restaurants and some good day trip options.”
The third is, “The Mosque Casate is unique in the world and I feel that we should not overlook it.”
