British travelers have revealed surprisingly low-cost groceries in Romania. There, everyday essentials like milk, fruits and alcohol become just a small portion of UK prices. But beyond its affordability, Romania boasts breathtaking scenery, historic cities and vibrant culture.
Tiktoker @nicoletravelandlife recently shared a shopping experience at Mega Image, a Romanian supermarket, highlighting how affordable food and drinks are. “Come to Romania, it's obviously very cheap here, so we're going to come to the supermarket and grab a basket.
When she explored the store, Nicole was particularly surprised by the price of a pint of milk – just 14p. In the UK, a pint of milk returns to around 85p.
“Bargain,” she said. She then pointed out other significantly lower prices, including 1.50 pounds of whole chicken, 7p fresh broccoli and avocado at just 2p.
She also picked up a large bottle of Disalonno for £9, a bottle of fresh orange juice from 60p, and commented on how these items were compared to British supermarkets.
Nicole was also intrigued by some of the unique features of Romanian supermarkets, such as the grains being packaged in bags rather than traditional boxes.
She praised the way fruits and vegetables were displayed, noting that Romania imports many of its products, but still allows prices to be kept incredibly low.
At checkout, she was shocked that the total cost of over 30 items reached just £20. “The real truth about how much it costs,” she said.
Beyond affordable prices, Romania offers a fantastic travel experience. The country has medieval castles, picturesque mountains and charming old towns, making it a dream destination for budget travelers.

Nature enthusiasts are drawn to the highways of Sibiu and Transfagarasan, often referred to as “the most beautiful road in the world,” and each time they engulf the mountains with stunning scenery.
