Amid a series of aviation accidents and serious incidents at the end of last year, a report from the Flight Safety Foundation in early 2025 highlighted growing concerns about serious vulnerabilities in flight safety and lapses in accordance with international standards, regulations and standard operating procedures.
Based on an analysis of data drawn from the Foundation's Aviation Safety Network Database, the 2024 Safety Report (9 pages, PDF) investigated 132 accidents involving all sorts of passenger aircraft in 2024. This report details passenger and corporate jet accidents based on accident categories, flight stages and operational types. In response, the foundation is seeking industry-wide recommendations for safety fundamentals, urging regulators, air navigation service providers, airports, aviation operators and manufacturers to strengthen compliance as the first step towards rebuilding a resilient safety culture.
“Passibility cannot sneak into the operation. Hassan Shahidi, president and CEO of the foundation, said: “Compliance alone does not guarantee safety, but without it, safety cannot be achieved.”
