The Australian Home Department has launched two advanced digital tools, two advanced digital tools, which have been praised for simplifying and accelerating the visa application process for international students and other immigrants.
Part of the broader digital transformation initiative of 2025, the new tool is designed to reduce application errors, improve document accuracy and reduce approval times, particularly for applicants seeking a student visa (subclass 500).
According to the department, these innovations reflect Australia's ongoing commitment to creating a more transparent, user-friendly visa application system for those who wish to study, work or travel within the country.
The Visa Finder tool helps prospective travelers and students identify the most appropriate visa based on their situation. By answering a short set of questions, including travel, nationality, and length of stay, users receive a tailored list of visa options.
This tool is particularly useful for students who are unsure whether a subclass 500 visa is appropriate, or whether alternatives such as a training or graduate visa are suitable for post-study planning.
The Document Checklist tool provides a personalized list of documents required for a subclass 500 student visa. Applicants will generate a tailored checklist by entering two important details of the country of passport and education provider or CRICOS code.

The tool also supports professional student visa categories, including:
Students sponsored by the Bureau of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) or Defense
Secondary exchange student
Applicants seeking an extension of their doctoral thesis marking visa
The checklist greatly reduces the risk of rejection due to a lack of documentation or outdated, and is especially useful for first-time applicants.
Step-by-step use of the checklist tool
International students are encouraged
Visit the official Ministry of Home Affairs website
Access the Visa Application Document Checklist Tool
Join Passport Country and Education Providers
Select the relevant visa category
Check and compile the required documentation
Submit them via ImmiacCount
The checklist provides a robust guide, but the applicant reminds them that it is just an indicator. Additional evidence may be required. Furthermore, if important documents such as evidence of English proficiency and financial ability are specified, they cannot be submitted in advance.
The tool seamlessly integrates with ImmiacCount, the department's online visa application platform. The system strengthens document requirements throughout the process, ensuring applicants remain adapted and organized.
For example, students applying under a packaged educational plan that progresses to some extent from foundation courses will enter the CRICOS codes of their major course providers. If the provider is not yet registered, students can use the temporary placeholder option until information is updated in the system.
