The 38th African Union (AU) Summit strengthens the call for visa-free travel across Africa, highlighting its importance for economic integration and trade. The African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank (AFDB) emphasized that they continue to interfere with commerce, labor mobility and investment in Africa. Countries like Rwanda, the Gambia, Seychelles, Benin and Ghana accept visa-free policies, but more than half of African countries require visas for most travelers on the continent.

To accelerate the changes, the AU and AFDB launched their 2025 Visa-Free Roadshow. This is a campaign aimed at attracting policymakers and businesses to promote visa liberalization. Authorities emphasized that people's seamless movements are key to maximizing the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) and realizing the AU's Agenda 2063 Borderless Africa vision. As the debate continues, leaders are being encouraged to translate their commitments into actions to boost tourism, trade and economic growth.
