Asiana Airlines expects to complete the transport of cargo units to a compatible Air Incheon by June 10th, with aircraft and employees being transferred to the latter operator.
The timeline was disclosed following a shareholders' meeting on February 25th. There, the transaction was overwhelmingly approved and the sale was officially completed.
Asia will transport 11 cargo ships, including a single 767F and 10 747F, as well as 800 employees in the freight sector.
On January 16th, Asiana signed the contract in a transaction that spans approximately 470 billion ($322 million).
The sale of Asiana cargo troops was an important prerequisite for European regulatory approval for the merger of Asiana and South Korean aviation.
The European Commission conditionally approved the merger in February 2024, based on the transfer of a portion of Korean Air's passenger network and a portion of Asiana's cargo operations.
Meanwhile, Air Incheon in January outlined its expansion plans after the acquisition of Asiana's freight business. The freight operator is aiming to expand its long-haul business following the sale, applying to run a scheduled service on the Seoul Uncrage Chicago route, and from there it also serves Dallas Seattle and Atlanta.
