Travelers are warned that following the odd Tiktok trends it could ruin their vacation. Flight experts warn that the latest virus sensation, “airport theory,” is a risk that people should not take. This trend has gained massive traction on the platform, with over 382.9 million posts alone.
But what is this trend? It challenges traditional advice to arrive early on a flight, suggesting that enough is enough to pass security instead. One video alone gave me over 12 million views, and many of them wondered why she chose to do it.
The comment wrote, “Sitting at the airport for two hours than there's a risk of missing a flight,” and said, “I don't know how people miss a flight.
“It went hundreds of dollars because I can't wait at your gate. I'll wait at least a hour or two at my gate because I'm so scared I'll miss my flight.”
As more people begin to book their trips with Easter and summer holidays in mind, experts are urging travelers to avoid this practice at all costs. Netflights' Amanda Parker warns the holiday maker: “While some participants may have been successful in (airport) theory, trends depend heavily on a variety of factors, such as queue times and distance to the airport. They may vary depending on the airport and flight time.
“To ensure that you can comfortably catch your flight and have enough time to miss your vacation, UK travelers are encouraged to check in at least three hours of departures on long-distance flights, two hours of European flights and one hour of domestic flights. With all this in mind, we highly recommend joining this trend.”
Experts also suggest planning peak travel times to arrive at the airport in a timely manner. If possible, high-speed truck boarding with advance booking is beneficial as it helps reduce the time spent in the queue and provides a smoother airport experience, especially for large groups and families with children.
However, for those trying “Airport Theory,” fast boarding does not guarantee that you will pass through security and reach the gate on time. Their final advice is to stay up to date with flight schedules and live travel news rather than waiting at the airport. This helps avoid unnecessary delays if your flight is being rescheduled. However, travelers are still encouraged to arrive at the airport as usual to accommodate last-minute changes.
