Elon Musk, a South African-born entrepreneur and unofficial adviser to President Donald Trump, has called for Pretoria to “repeal more than 100 racist laws that distinguish non-black people from “apartheid version 2.” The genocide of South Africa. His remarks came in response to video of Cyril Ramaphosaden's chief president, claiming racial violence or systematic targeting of white South Africans. “We all know that as South Africans, both black and white, there is no genocide here,” Ramaphosa said in the video, rejecting claims of national accusation of hostility towards any group. “We are not genociders… we are peace-loving countries, we are countries that are committed to transformation… without discerning whether this is black or not, this is white.”His comments come as President Ramaphosa prepares for a decisive visit to Washington to meet President Donald Trump. The visit is widely seen as a high stakes attempt to repair ties following rising tensions over race, land policy and international litigation. Trump's administration has expressed strong disapproval of Pretoria's Land Reform Act and South Africa's lawsuit against Israel in the International Court of Justice. The US recently expelled South Africa's ambassadors, imposed tariffs, reduced aid and expanded diplomatic friction. The mask accusations coincide with a wave of controversy over the offer of “refugee” status to white South Africans, particularly Africans. Despite allegations that Ramaphosa is not eligible as a refugee, more than 8,000 people have applied to participate in the program. “You're a coward when you run away,” he told reporters earlier this week, labeling their departure as abandonment of the country's democratic project. The South African government repeatedly pushed back into stories of white persecution, branding them as plots. Ramaphosa spokesman Vincent Magwenia said this week that genocide's “false stories” were being used to undermine South Africa's international status.
