The Hodi Hodi Beach House in Zanzibar was designed and built in 2014 by African-born friends and family, especially as a relaxation in a post-safari paradise.
A few years later, they felt they needed to offer their own Safari products.
Avoiding the more popular Northern Park, they chose southern Tanzania as their Hodi Hodi Safari experience – because it is beautiful, remote and far less visits.
They found the perfect spot on the high mountain slope just outside Ruaha National Park.
Using thousands of rocks from local sustainably paid eucalyptus, teak, mud brick, grass thatch and Mountainside, and employing workers from the village behind camp's Highridge, the team began construction in 2018.
He cooked at the campfire and lived in a small tent with an office under the canvas tied to a Marula tree, maintaining social distancing from elephants, jackals, muskfish, hyenas, wild pigs and baboons during the build.
Wildfires, poachers, droughts, long negotiations, economic hardships and floods broke the bridge and shut it off for several weeks, then the pandemic was there.
Finally, Hodi Hodi Ruaha Bush Camp quietly opened in June 2022.
They started slowly and are now aware of the possibility that they chose ruaha.
The natural drama of free spaces in this part of Tanzania does not require any theatrical decoration. This camp with a tent blends beautifully with the background and panorama.
Five double rooms, two family suites, two private homes, completely off-grid, with heartfelt views in timeless landscapes.
A lounge bar with pools overlooking the waterfall hole, where elephants drink, famous cuisine, spectacular sunsets, classic Land Rover, Miles-less people, outdoor dining with the moon and stars at night.
Wildlife is back: lions, leopards, Sable & Lawn Antelope, Greater Andresser Coudou, giraffes, impalas, warsogs, zebras and even wild dogs are often there to greet guests.
Hodi Hodi Bush Camp offers armed, guided bushwalks, night drives, bush sundown, off-road exploration, day trips to the spectacular Luah National Park, and optional hot air balloon flights.
And last year, Hodi Hodi officially partnered with the village community to support education and healthcare projects. This has saved money by leasing over 16,500 acres of untouched bushes to the boundaries of the fenceless park for over 30 years.
It is more than 65 square kilometers of wilderness – mountains, forests, rivers, plains – and only Hodi Hodi there.
