Why is it important?
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) compiled dozens of flight safety accidents in the first four months of the year.
Among the most serious collisions of the year was the January 29th collision involving a commercial jet and a military helicopter above the Potomac River. PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700, operated as American Airlines Flight 5342, collided with the US Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk while approaching Reagan Washington National Airport. The collision killed all 67 people aboard both aircraft.
What do you know
The number of people on the small commercial flight on Monday is not yet clear, but the NTSB estimates it was between three and four.
The two victims killed in the crash were adults, the Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS) said. The injured were taken to a hospital in the Anchorage area, he added.
“We don't know how many people are on board and the unclear cause and injuries,” said department spokesman Austin McDaniel.
Alaska, according to my reading of Alaska, the plane appears to belong to Smoky Bay Air, a commercial air charter service based in Homer.
Newsweek has contacted Smokey Bay Air for comments outside of normal working hours.
A small plane crashed on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula last month, but three families survived the incident.
