Airlines in third countries that are operating domestic flights in Russia can ban operations in the European Union under the newly adopted sanctions package.
The packages adopted by the Council of Europe cover economic sectors such as transportation, energy, trade and infrastructure.
Flight bans to allow a list of third country airlines running domestic flights within Russia, or enable the supply of aircraft or air goods to Russian airlines, including airlines used for domestic flights .
“If listed, these airlines will not be allowed to fly to the EU,” the Commission said without identifying individual operators.
“The measure aims to target operators who will help Russia mitigate the impact of EU air sanctions.”
It makes it clear that there are no results for airlines in third countries that simply fly around Russian airspace.
As part of the package, the Council of Europe has adopted a “complete trade ban” for certain infrastructure facilities, such as Moscow Vnukovo and Moscow's Zhukovsky airport, with four regional airports.
Regional airports include Perm, Yekaterinbergkortsovo, Pszkov and Begischzevo.
According to EU law, these facilities are subject to trade bans as they are used to transfer unmanned aerial vehicles or missiles or goods and technology that support Russian military campaigns against Ukraine.
