The Air Zimbabwe single B767-200ER is used to repatriate about 200 wounded soldiers from Malawi from their homeland after evacuating from South Africa, Tanzania and Malawi from the M23 controlled Goma in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Data from ADS-B shows that the evacuation flight of Z-WPF (MSN 24867) was operated by South African ACMI/Charter Specialist African Charter Airlines (FSK, Johannesburg or Tambo) under the “FSK” code on February 25-26.
Africa Charter Airlines has confirmed with CH-Aviation that it ran a flight sector from Harare International, the capital of Chinbabwe, to Kigali (Rwanda) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and from there it flew to Lilongwe International (Malawi).
According to a social media post, soldiers have evacuated from Goma to Kigali as Goma's airspace remains closed. From Kigali, the aircraft first unloaded the injured Tanzanians of Dar es Salaam, then proceeded to Malawi and eventually South Africa.
Last year, the same B767 revolved three times between Harare and Upinston (South Africa) and Goma Ferry's South African Defence Force (SANDF) forces to help deploy in the DRC.
Ch-Aviation has contacted Air Zimbabwe for comment.
According to ADS-B data, Z-WPF was wet leased to Eznis Airways (MG, Ulaanbaatar) from September 1, 2024 to January 1, 2025. It was temporarily chartered last year by DRC Startup Mont Gabaon Airlines (Goma).
Goma will remain closed until at least May 11th due to armed conflict.
