Air India has temporarily cut its Boeing 787 and 777 services for nearly a month as a result of increased safety checks in its fleet following the Ahmedabad accident.
The carrier says the measures that begin on June 21 also take into account airspace closures in the Middle East, leading to longer flights and disruptions in schedules.
Air India will suspend two routes to London Gatwick, including Delhi Nairobi Service until June 30th and at least July 15th.
Frequency reductions will occur on North American and Asia-Pacific routes from Delhi, including Washington Dulles, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Haneda Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne.
Several European connections from Delhi, Bengaluru and Amritsar will also be trimmed.
Air India is working to apologise to the affected passengers and respond to them. “The purpose is last-minute inconvenience to restore and (minimise) schedule stability,” he adds.
The fleet check was introduced after the accident on June 12th, including the 787 departure Ahmedabad for London Gatwick. Investigators have not yet disclosed any preliminary findings from the investigation.
The conflict between Israel and Iran also recommends that the flights avoid airspaces in both countries and in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.
Air India says it is committed to restoring its full schedule “as soon as possible” while prioritizing passenger and crew safety.
