The contract was officially made on the sidelines of the 81st IATA Annual Meeting (AGM) held in New Delhi. The signing ceremony was attended by Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson, and Air Mauritius Chairman Kishore Beagoo.

    More routes spanning five markets

Under the expanded partnership, both carriers place their respective specifier codes on a total of 17 routes covering destinations in India, Mauritius, Lenion, South Africa and Madagascar. This will improve travellers with more seamless travel options and access to the region.

This strengthened bilateral agreement is expected to boost tourism, trade and business travel between the two regions, providing greater connectivity across key markets.

Single ticket convenience and reach expansion

With the strengthening of the codeshare partnership, Air India will place the “AI” specifier code on Air Mauritius flights in Mauritius to travel between Cape Town, South Africa and Johannesburg and Antananarivo in Madagascar, and travel to these cities via final tickets and baggage via Air India guests. Air India is a codeshare for Air Mauritius flights between Mauritius and Mumbai, Delhi and Lenion.

Air Mauritius currently posts the “MK” specifier code on Air India Flights, which operates between Mauritius and several Indian cities, including Mauritius and Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Goa. As part of the enhanced codeshare, Air Mauritius will now become a codeshare for Air India flights between Mauritius and Mumbai.

All flights operated by Air India and Air Mauritius between the two countries have each other's designation codes, which will multiply flight options for customers of either carriers.

Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, said: “India is one of the largest tourism markets for South African destinations, including Mauritius and South Africa, and is a strong trading partner in the region.

“This expanded codeshare partnership is a partnership with Air Mauritius, which is another step in expanding our expanded global network, making it easy for our customers to access these destinations.

“Air Mauritius will expand its collaboration with Air India to provide passenger connections to many destinations across India via Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

“India to Mauritius travelers will not only experience the warmth of a multicultural society and the richness of diverse local cuisine, but also enjoy the convenience of reunion with Air Mauritius and connections with South Africa and Madagascar.”

Additional codeshare flights can be booked from July 1, 2025.
